We use the gold standard tests and guidelines to quickly and correctly diagnose and treat strokes.

In Blair County, EMS (emergency medical service) workers are a key part of our team. They're ready to respond to a stroke 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our EMS rapid response stroke team members at UPMC Altoona:

  • Treat strokes with the same urgency as heart attacks.
  • Prioritize 911 calls for stroke victims.
  • Have special training to detect stroke symptoms.
  • Call ahead to let us know a possible stroke victim is on the way.
